A Jar Full of Happiness

With Christmas officially at a close and the New Year just days away, thistime of year is often about reflection. What have we accomplished this year? What can we improve about ourselves and our lives next year? What was amazing about 2016 and what absolutely sucked monkey nuts about it? Whether you lost a loved one or started a new family, lost a job or launched a career, the year holds a variety of memories and lessons for every single one of us.

Mason jar filled with small gift boxes.

Scrolling through one of my various social media accounts (there seems to be a new one pop up every fifteen minutes am I right?) I saw this

suggestion about writing down all the wonderful things that happened throughout the year and placing them in some sort of decorative container, this particular suggestion was a mason jar but really anything would work. There were detailed instructions on how to make the mason jar all fancy and festive for this project, but I’m not crafty by nature so I’m all about buying something pretty from Target and using that.

The point, of course, is to collect all the wonderful memories in one place. That way, when the final days of the year are upon us and we find ourselves wallowing in the many hurdles and hard times that seemed to kick us right in the ass over the past twelve months we won’t let all the bad stuff overshadow all the wonderful things we did and saw and experienced as well. It’s sometimes hard to remember the good things when the stench of all the shit storms seem to linger this time of year, but that’s what we all have to do, remember. Learn the lessons from the failures of course, but remember the blessings as well.

So, that’s what I’m going to do in 2017, I’m going to start a happiness jar, that way when the final days of 2017 are upon me I won’t have to work to think of all the things that gave me the warm and fuzzies all year long, I’ll literally have a jar of happiness to dig into. Who’s with me?
